I was given a set of those in 4x100 and 14 inches... They are genuine SSR RS-8 Watanabe, which means that they are worth quite a bit! I guess it’s not bad for a present :)

I’ve only done two wheels but it took me 4 hours... I can’t feel my hands from all the sanding. And despite all the sanding I’m still not totally happy with the results. I’ll finish tomorrow. I’m dead now.

Looks pretty good.

Thx but a closer look will still show layers of the older paint here and there that I couldn’t remove completely despite all the sanding... Once I’ll add another layer of paint, it might be less visible...

Good job bringing these wheels back to life! Wouldn’t it have been easier to remove the center from the rim though?

No, there are 16 bolts per wheel so 64 total. These have not moved in like 20 years and they are almost impossible to get off. I’ve tried in the past, but I won’t do it again, too difficult unless the wheels are brand new.

Ah, I see. Well good luck finishing the other two!

Wow, I had no idea RS Watanabes even came in a two piece configuration. Hell of a gift, I hope they go on something as equally sexy!

I’ll sell them... I don’t have a car with 4x100 so it will go to someone who does. The wheels were basically abandonned so my friend gave them to me and told me to sell them for myself lol...

And yes RS watnabe made 2 piece wheels during the time they were owned by SSR. This is why they are called SSR RS-8 Watanabe. They are still RS Watanabe, but from the time they “shared technology” with SSR :)

I think RS Watanabe (a company on its own again today) still makes 2 piece wheels today though... Not this specific model though. RS-8 have a new version that I don’t like as much...

I think about the only way to avoid that is media blasting.

Yeah sand blasting would be the way to go... unfortunately, I don’t have the tools for it... :(

I might just invest into one... I can probably sell those for 8 to 900$ but they can be bought for A LOT cheaper here... I might start flipping sets of wheels like this. To paraphrase the donald, margins are huuuuuuuge lol

A blaster that can fit rims can be had on the cheap. The compressor for said blaster on the other hand is pricey. But if you wanted to invest that whole sum you could either get a really cheap new or a used name brand compressor and blast cabinet.
